Festival Eritaj
A Cultural Must in Guadeloupe

“ RESISTANCE WAS AT THE HEART OF THIS COMMEMORATION “
This event truly found its place during the weekend commemorating the abolition of slavery in Guadeloupe from May 25 to 27, 2018.
Taking place on a site rich in history, at the foot of the Slave Steps, at the junction of the port through which slaves from Africa arrived and not far from an old slave prison, Le Festival Éritaj not only honored the memory of our ancestors through various performances but also raised a major question about our existence.

Indeed, Resistance was at the heart of this commemoration particularly through debate conferences focused on our current condition, black men and women, descendants of slaves, still under European governance today.
WOTÈ MIZIK
Musically speaking, it was a festival building up to a crescendo that featured artists from all backgrounds on Saturday and Sunday evenings, engaged and especially full of convictions. “Sonjé pou vansé” or “A better tomorrow” were notably the messages promoted by the artists Mano d’Ishango from the Karukera Crew and the Jamaican Etana.

Esy Kennenga and the rapper EDS. offered an artistic blend that, in my opinion, spoke to everyone. A musical stroll marrying two well-defined styles, true to the theme of resistance of this 4th edition.
The uniqueness of these concerts is surprising as it is a true “lyannaj”* among all these voices, all these souls, forming one on stage. A beautiful energy emanated from it, keeping us on the edge of our seats. A stunning final concert orchestrated in an unprecedented week, offering us one of the most authentic shows, a show so enjoyable that it should last the entire night.
*Lyannaj: A word meaning “union, gathering”.

We are surely re-energized as we finish this festival, ready to climb new mountains.
