Interview with Made in Mizik

The Highlighting of Martinican Heritage is Our Greatest Success

INTERVIEW WITH

by Mike Ponin

With Gilles GUILON and David CHANTALOU as leaders, the group MADE IN MIZIK offers a true musical alchemy nourished by the experience and sensitivity of these two musicians.

“THE PROMOTION OF MARTINICAN HERITAGE IS OUR GREATEST SUCCESS”

The greatest success of MADE IN MIZIK to date is having managed to find a professional entourage that allows us to highlight Martinican heritage and more broadly Antillo-Guyanese, enabling us to present ourselves to the hexagon.

“Our inspirations come from our respective backgrounds, sources of Caribbean music essentially, then opening up to the world.”

UNWAVERING DETERMINATION

If we had to listen to one song by MADE IN MIZIK, which one would you recommend and why?

The song Wotè comba’w for the simple and good reason that it is the first piece we composed in 2013.

MADE IN MIZIK — Wotè Comba’w

We recommend it because its lyrics call for determination and the courage to believe in tomorrow; it is still possible to build towards an ideal tomorrow.

We want to restore hope to a whole people scattered in the corners of the world in the face of a catastrophic economy, just as our culture has never been, and bring everyone together for a better future.

A GODFATHER UNDER THE CHARM

Jean Philippe “PIPO” Marthely

You have gained the support of J.P Marthely, a recognized artist from Kassav as a godfather. Do you have any idea what attracted him to MADE IN MIZIK?

“The search for sounds and the group's investigation, to represent a positive image of our roots, because at MADE IN MIZIK we have a secret recipe: Determination.”

NEW ALBUM

Listen Here

This is your 2nd album and unlike the first, the second is supported by the label AZTEC Musique. What does this change for MADE IN MIZIK and your music?

For our music, of course, a superior logistics allowing us to best exploit our creations as authors, composers, and performers.

Made in Mizik now benefits from a professional entourage adapted to the context and environment of its music.

ZOUK

In your opinion, how is the Zouk genre doing and what should be done to promote its radiance?

“The Zouk genre needs to return to the daily life of the people.”

Its radiance will be the result of the work done by each person wanting to reclaim their culture, and this is where the approach of MADE IN MIZIK comes in, allowing new generations to discover a warm style that is eager to return to the forefront.

Every day we must contact, travel, exchange with collaborators gathered around the question of how to bring this ZOUK phenomenon back to the forefront with people who have the potential to... So some stay, others leave, but encounters multiply as the days go by.

NOT TO BE MISSED!

The next step for MADE IN MIZIK is to conquer its audience now through organizing concerts, our only means of persuasion “Music” in all corners of the Caribbean, passing through the hexagon...

After our opening act in the packed venue of La Cigale on October 31, 2016, we return to Paris for a CONCERT on December 16, 2017, as part of the tropical suburbs festival in the legendary venue of NEW MORNING, then in Martinique on January 27 in the T.O.M (Téyat Otonom Mawon) hall in Fort de France... and in May at the FESTIVAL DU MANS.

This is clearly our introduction to everyone for a first consultation :-)

IN 10 YEARS…

How do you see MADE IN MIZIK in 10 years?

😀 As a group that has traveled around the world 10 times but also has allowed an entire generation to be proud of its culture without compromise, like our predecessors who marked the ground from whom we understood the message.

KASSAV’

“Our commitment is made, see you in 10 years if God grants us life.”

A big shout out to the readers because through positive and realistic messages, vocations can be born...

Kudos to KRIBBEAN for the messages you convey, hoping to cross paths on our journey.

“It’s the audience that reigns! Let’s not forget that... Long live Music... Let’s not sectorize it.”
